A noteworthy legislative amendment was the exclusion of “squatters” from the definition of “tenant” under the current tenancy laws.
It is important to note that while the new Good Cause Eviction Law went into effect in New York City immediately, other municipalities throughout New York State will need to opt-in by enacting this legislation if they so choose.

Extremely highly regarded in the industry, she was most recently Broker/Owner of her own firm, Kingsley Realty in Mount Vernon, and previously an Associate Broker with J. Philip Real Estate in Pelham. In addition to her residential real estate expertise, she holds the Commercial & Investment Real Estate Certification (CIRE) and the At Home With Diversity (AHWD) certification. She currently serves on the Fair Housing and Professional Standards committees at the Hudson Gateway Association of Realtors and is bilingual Spanish and English. A huge advocate in her local community, Kingsley participates on the Citizen Advisory Board for the Mt. Vernon Comprehensive Plan Committee, Chair of the Rotary International Club for Mt. Vernon, and is a volunteer mentor at the local Boys & Girls Club. Prior to and alongside her years in real estate, she is a licensed RN and holds a teacher certification for NYS with an M.S.Ed in Elementary Education from Mercy College and a BA in Health Care Administration from New School, NYC.
Prelvukaj is a Parsons School of Design graduate with a degree in interior design. She is a first-generation Bronx native to Albanian immigrant parents who is fluent in both languages. She currently works with interior design clients in Greenwich, CT while assisting real estate clients in NY. Klein, an Ossining resident and New York native, comes to real estate after a lengthy career of IT Audit experience in the media, entertainment, publishing and financial services spaces, including positions with News Corp and JP Morgan among others. He earned his B.S. in Mathematics and Computer Science from Pace University.
