YONKERS—Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano announced on Sept. 24 the appointment of Carolina Fonseca as Yonkers’ newest Planning & Development Commissioner. A seasoned international A.I.A. associate architect and urban planner, Fonseca will serve as acting commissioner, pending Yonkers City Council confirmation.
“Carolina joins our Administration with a unique skill set and expertise in project creations, New York State codes, planning and development,” said Mayor Mike Spano. “I am confident she will take the momentum we’ve created over the last decade and build upon it to further expand our economic development efforts in a smart and measured way, serving all those in our community.”
Fonseca joins the City of Yonkers with 27 years of experience, collaborating on diverse projects for municipalities and both national & international commercial clients. Most recently, she served as head of the Building Department in the Village of Mamaroneck. She also served as a consultant for the Village of Tuckahoe and the City of Mount Vernon in their respective Building Departments.
Notably, Fonseca created the design concept for municipal projects including the Tuckahoe Public Library renovation, Tuckahoe Depot Square Plaza and hospital renovations. Fonseca holds a Bachelor Degree in Architecture & Urban Planning from Braz Cubas University, as is recognized as an International Associate by the American Institute of Architects. Commissioner Fonseca is also a New York State Code Enforcement Officer and received her LEED-AP status in 2008.
