LEGAL CORNER: NYC Passes the FARE Act and Restricts the Payment of Commissions by Tenants
The real estate industry has expressed concerns regarding the potential repercussions of the FARE Act.
Matt McAllister, an agent with Corcoran Baer & McIntosh in Nyack and COO at Statewide Abstract, has raised almost $3,000 to date for the Hudson Gateway Realtor Foundation, through his recent 142-mile Steamboat Gravel Bike Race in Steamboat Springs, Colorado.
To date, McAllister’s GoFundMe page has garnered $2,706 in donations and it will remain open for a few more weeks. This marks the first time he has embarked on this world-class gravel race that accumulates over 10,000 feet of elevation gain. McAllister and other racers were riding at altitudes of 6,900 to 8,500 feet.
“Thanks to the high heat, high altitude, and high effort on these Rocky Mountain roads, I was physically wrecked by the end,” he admitted. “But it was an amazing experience to be able to go that deep and come away with a pretty good time of 9:31. You learn a lot about yourself at the far reaches of an endurance event like this and, if nothing else, it was a nice reminder that I don’t know how to quit.”
Because of his involvement with HGRF, McAllister decided to get personally involved to raise awareness about how the Foundation is making an impact in our region. “I wanted to raise money for HGRF because I have seen firsthand how thankful these organizations are for our grants and how far the money goes,” he said. “There is a direct impact in the communities we serve in the real estate industry, and I think it is our responsibility to give back and support the health and happiness of our fellow citizens.”
McAllister is no stranger to tough competitions like this one. In 2020, he completed his own 204-mile bike trek through the Hudson Valley, across the George Washington Bridge, through Manhattan and Queens, and finishing in Long Island. That ride raised money for the Hillside Food Outreach, providing in-home food delivery for those in need in Westchester, Putnam, and Fairfield counties.
Five years earlier, he completed a 70-mile Half Ironman Triathlon in Maryland. The event involved a 1.2-mile swim, 56-mile bike ride and 13.1-mile run. McAllister ran his first 50K (30-miles) marathon through Harriman State Park in Orange and Rockland counties in 2017 and in 2019, he ran a 50-mile marathon in New Paltz.
The HG Realtor Foundation supports qualified, community-based charities that serve the housing, hunger, health, happiness, and humane needs of those throughout the Hudson Valley and beyond. The money raised is distributed as grants to charities and non-profit organizations to help feed, cloth, shelter and provide job training for the less fortunate in our communities.
