The Hudson Gateway Association of Realtors regrets to inform its membership of the passing of veteran Westchester County Realtor Martha Lowenfeld. “Marti,” of Somers, formerly of the Bronx, passed away on Monday, Jan. 6, at Complete Care at Green Knoll in Bridgewater, NJ at the age of 82. She was born on Feb. 18, 1942, in the Bronx to the late Frank and Etta (Begelman) Lowenfeld.
After settling in Somers, Lowenfeld spent decades in the real estate industry. According to her website, she worked until her recent retirement this past summer as an Associate Broker with Houlihan Lawrence’s Somers office. Among her professional associations and designations, she was a member of the Hudson Gateway Association of Realtors, the New York State Association of Realtors and the National Association of Realtors and had earned the Certified Residential Specialist (CRS) and Senior Residential Specialist (SRS) designations.
Lowenfeld was a graduate of the National College of Education in Chicago and later earned her Master of Arts degree at George Washington University. Her career started as a grade school teacher and she spoke fondly of her students from those days. She spent time as a flight attendant with Pan Am, enjoying the opportunity to see the world during the “Golden Age of Air Travel.” She also joined the Tom Dooley Foundation to provide medical care to people in the Third World, spending time in Southeast Asia, and falling in love with the cultures and its people. Eventually, she settled in Somers, becoming a Realtor where she found her stride, spending decades in the industry. She was often a top agent and built countless relationships with her knack for learning facts about people. She had only retired this previous summer and embraced the time it gave her to finally do things she had been talking about for years.
Lowenfeld was a devoted “Grantie” to her beloved great-nephews, Jacob Weber, Ethan Weber, and Nolan Weber, from Watchung, NJ. Her “bestest boys,” as she always called them, were the most delicious part of her life. She dedicated herself to being there for them, constantly making the drive from NY to NJ to spend time as they grew up. She is also survived by her brother Charles Lowenfeld, of Stamford, CT; her sister, Hazel Rudich, of Boca Raton, FL; and her niece, Rebecca Weber Cohen, of Far Hills, NJ.
