As the whirlwind 2024 election season concludes, the dust is beginning to settle on a year that has reshaped the political landscape locally and nationally. While presidential and congressional races often dominate headlines, New York saw several pivotal outcomes that directly impact Realtor priorities, especially in housing affordability and policy.

In Westchester County’s 16th Congressional District, George Latimer, the Westchester County Executive achieved victory over incumbent Congressman Jamaal Bowman back in the spring primaries. After that contentious and record-breaking Democratic primary, Latimer’s easy general election win marks a shift in representation for this district. Notably, Latimer’s politically moderate track record includes spearheading the 2019 Westchester County Housing Needs Assessment, positioning him as a key ally for addressing the region’s affordability crisis.

Next door, in the 17th Congressional District, Republican Congressman Mike Lawler successfully defended his seat against former Representative Mondaire Jones in one of the nation’s most-watched races. This contest attracted national attention and significant financial backing, including strong support from the National Association of Realtors.
