The district covers the Bronx and parts of Westchester. Jaamal Bowman a progressive and High School Principal in the Bronx left the night leading Engel by at least a 15-point margin.
Mondaire Jones an Obama Justice Department alum and a progressive had a large lead for U.S. Rep. Nita Lowey’s open seat who is retiring after decades of representing Congressional District 17. Several other candidates were running, including Assemblyman David Buchwald and Senator David Carlucci. Carlucci and Buchwald cannot run for their respective Assembly and Senate seats again this year.
U.S. Rep. Carolyn Maloney was in a dead heat with Suraj Patel for New York’s 12th Congressional district. Her district covers Manhattan and she has a lead of less than 1,000 votes at press time. She has faced Patel before and their contests have gotten closer and closer over the years.
Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney did not face a primary challenge. He will have a general election opponent but he has won time and again in his district.
