NAR: Northeast Existing-Home Sales Spiked by 8.5% in November; Prices Rose Nearly 10%
“Home sales momentum is building,” said NAR Chief Economist Lawrence Yun.
My parents’ story is one of countless others who immigrated to the United States in search of a better life. They faced immense challenges—language barriers, cultural adjustments, and economic hardships—but their determination never wavered.
As a first-generation Asian American woman, I know that Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month (May) is significant for many. It is a time that perhaps I could endeavor to use more profoundly; a time for reflection on my family’s journey, the sacrifices they made, and the rich cultural heritage that has unknowingly shaped who I am today.
Bearing witness to the incredible resilience and determination of the Seto family was a normalcy of life that I didn’t even think to revere growing up. My parents and extended family built a new life in a foreign land, all while not only carrying the hopes and dreams of future generations but pushing those hopes and dreams forward.
My parents’ story is one of countless others who immigrated to the United States in search of a better life. They faced immense challenges—language barriers, cultural adjustments, and economic hardships—but their determination never wavered. Homeownership was indeed a dream they pursued relentlessly. For them, buying a home symbolized more than just a place to live; it was a testament to their hard work and a foundation for our family’s future. This personal experience is certainly not unique to me and has fortunately inspired so many to enter the real estate industry in order to help others achieve their dreams of homeownership.
During Asian Heritage Month, many organizations highlight the contributions of Asian Americans in real estate, promoting sustainable homeownership opportunities, supporting Asian American real estate professionals by providing essential resources and advocacy, and ensuring the community has the tools needed to overcome unique challenges in the housing market.
This month, I believe, should be about celebrating our diverse backgrounds and the stories that make up our community. Perhaps it could be a time to acknowledge the strength and creativity that Asian Americans bring to the real estate industry to further inspire future generations to pursue their own dreams with confidence and determination and, to that end, promoting diversity and inclusion would help create an environment where different perspectives are valued and innovation flourishes.
As we celebrate Asian Heritage Month, I am filled with not only pride but gratitude for the journey my family and many others have taken. These stories are powerful reminders of what we can achieve so I try to draw inspiration from these stories of determination, cultural pride and professional success to build and further shape a future where the contributions of Asian Americans in real estate continue to grow and inspire. Together, maybe we can further break barriers, set new standards of excellence, and ensure resilience and innovation, all while holding onto an unwavering commitment to community.
And let us not forget that this sentiment is not only true for Asian American communities but for any community and every community because we are all Stronger Together.
