Just days after HGAR hosts its annual Legislative Breakfast on Oct. 6, voters, policymakers, and industry stakeholders will turn their attention to the NYC General Election Debate Series.
As New York City enters the final stretch of the 2025 election cycle, housing and real estate are set to dominate the political conversation. For Hudson Gateway Association of Realtors members, this is not just another election year—it’s a chance to engage directly with the policies that shape our industry, our clients and the communities we serve.
The timing is especially significant. Just days after HGAR hosts its annual Legislative Breakfast on Oct. 6, voters, policymakers, and industry stakeholders will turn their attention to the NYC General Election Debate Series. These forums, organized by the New York City Campaign Finance Board and carried by top broadcast partners, will showcase the candidates for citywide office as they debate the issues that matter most—including housing affordability, co-op transparency, insurance reform and commercial revitalization.
Public Advocate Debate – Oct. 9 at 7:00 p.m. (NY1)
Comptroller Debate – Oct. 14 at 7:00 p.m. (NY1)
Mayoral Debate Round 1 – Oct. 16 at 7:00 p.m. (WNBC, Telemundo 47, Politico)
Mayoral Debate Round 2 – Oct. 22 at 7:00 p.m. (NY1, Spectrum Noticias, WNYC/Gothamist, THE CITY).
Additional debates for Public Advocate, Comptroller, and Mayoral candidates may be scheduled after eligibility is finalized on Oct. 3.
Every policy decision at City Hall has ripple effects for the real estate market. For Realtors, several core issues are likely to surface during the debates:
Housing Affordability: How will candidates address the challenges of rising rents, limited supply and stalled development across the city?
Transparency in Housing Markets: Buyers, sellers, and brokers are calling for more predictable, efficient processes that support healthy transactions.
